VEERASAIVA DHARMA DARSANA: U. R. Ananthamurthy — Chief Editor; Pub. by Jagadguru Sivarathreeswara Granthamaale, JSS Maha Vidyapeetha, Mysore-570004. Rs. 500.

VEERASAIVISM IS a part of Karnataka's history. The entire literature relating to this sect is in Kannada; in fact it is the pioneer of Nadu Kannada (Middle). The system is based on the Vedas and the Puranas but Basava (11th Century A.D.), the chief propagator of Veerasaivism and his associates struck a brave new path in trying to reach the goals among other things of a casteless society.

One of their weapons was language. They wrote their unique Vachanas in very simple Kannada explaining high moral values that even illiterates could follow easily and were attracted to. The first volume deals with the literary aspects of Veerasaiva writings and how they enriched the language, besides accounts of Jainism, Buddhism and the Bhakti movement. This volume deals with specific literary works and various types of literary activity.

As a work of reference on Veerasaivism the volumes are valuable.
