Textile exporters' plea on duty drawback

COIMBATORE: Representatives of different segments of the textile industry here have sought restoration of duty drawback rates on ad valorem basis for textile products. They made this appeal in a meeting here today with members of the committee set up by the Centre to review duty drawback rates. Representatives of exporting textile mills, powerloom and handloom units, and manufacturers of made-ups participated. The Vice-Chairman of the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil), V.S. Velayutham, and the Chairman of the Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA), Vijay Venkataswamy, told The Hindu that the Centre had changed the duty drawback rates from ad valorem basis to weight basis in January. At the meeting, they pleaded for reimbursement of all the duties suffered on the inputs.
