Tele density crosses 8 pc mark

NEW DELHI, OCT. 7. With the addition of 20 lakh subscribers in September, the teledensity in the country has crossed the eight mark. In other words, more than eight persons per 100 now own telephones of either the mobile or landline variety, With the latest addition, the total number of phones added during the first six months of the current fiscal has crossed one crore, according to data released today by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

The gross subscriber base consisting of fixed and mobile has now touched 8.68 crores resulting in teledensity of 8.10.
