PeopleSoft to invest $30-40 m in Indian ODC

MUMBAI MAY 22. Application software provider PeopleSoft Inc. will set up, in collaboration with Hexaware Technologies, an offshore development centre (ODC) in India, for which it is planning to invest $30-40 million.

"The ODC, known as India Service Centre, will focus on developing, supporting and implementing our enterprise resource suite, apart from providing services to existing clients," PeopleSoft Executive Vice-President, Ram Gupta, told reporters here.

The investment in the centre, planned to be located at Bangalore, would be made in a phased manner over three years; Hexaware has been entrusted with the responsibility of setting up and operating the centre, Mr. Gupta said.

The centre would initially employ 50 people to be increased to 300 by December this year.

The workforce is projected to grow to around 700 in the three-year period, he said.

That would be PeopleSoft's first ODC in India and the eighth such centre in the world, he said adding that would be the only centre which was being set up on a partnership basis.

Hexaware Technologies chairman Atul Nishar said the new facility would offer remote configuration capability utilising PeopleSoft's lab-based implementation methodology, resulting in cutting costs and time required for installation.

The companies would focus on applications in customer relationship management, supply chain management, human capital management, financial management and application integration, he added.
