Cookie Man to expand

CHENNAI OCT. 5. Cookie Man plans to expand its Indian operations by opening more outlets in leading departmental stores on a franchise basis. It also plans to introduce more varieties of Cookie Man after monitoring the success of its latest widening network in marketing cookies, Peter Elligett, Managing Director of Cookie Man Pty Ltd of Australia told The Hindu today. The company was also planning enter the ice-cream market, he said. As part of expansion, Cookie Man India, the Chennai based 50:50 joint venture with Australian interest, has entered into an agreement with Food World to open fresh baked cookie shops inside the Food World outlets in Chennai.

To start with, the company would be open its first such shop-in-shop facility in the Kilpauk outlet of Food World. It plans to open another 12 shops shortly. The shop-in-shop features the patented proprietary Autobake oven of Australian partner's specifications.

With more than 100 stores across 12 countries, the company has 35 Cookie Man franchise stores in Australia with ten new stores under development.

Despite competition from Mrs. Fields of the U.S. and Millie's of the U.K, Cookie Man has been increasing its share in these regions.
