CII to organise auto fair in Chennai

CHENNAI, AUG. 14. The Confederation of Indian Industry will organise a three-day exhibition here to showcase opportunities in downstream activities in automotive business.

Auto Serv 2004 will begin on December 2. It will provide business-to-business (B2B) platform and focus on aftermarket activities such as automotive care, upkeep, service, parts and garage equipment.

The CII had organised a couple of auto shows in the past — one in Coimbatore in 2000 and another in Chennai in 2002. This time, however, the focus is deliberately shifted from auto to aftermarket. According to L. Ganesh, Chairman, Auto Serv 2004, the change in focus was the result of realisation that the size of aftermarket could be more than two-and-a-half times that of vehicle sales. According to R. Dinesh, co-chairman of Auto Serv 2004, the event will have a two-fold objective. For one, it will provide a common platform for all those involved in aftermarket business. For another, it could prove a useful forum to educate the trade on latest trends even while facilitating it to showcase its latest wares.
