Ashok Leyland on expansion mode

HUBLI: Ashok Leyland, the flagship of Hinduja Group, has evinced interest in procuring auto components manufactured by some of the small scale industries in Hubli.

In an informal chat with The Hindu on Friday, after addressing a meeting at the North Karnataka Small Scale Industries (NKSSIA) Association, R. Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, hinted that the in the days to come, the company might buy some auto components from the small scale industrial units in the region.

He said some of the auto components that were on display at the exhibition organised by NKSSIA had drawn his attention and he had asked his officials to proceed in this regard.

Mr. Seshasayee said the company was on an expansion mode and was looking for suitable partners. "We are expanding our product range and our efforts to increase the market share have met with success. We will be having a sort of partnership with Vijayanand Roadlines Limited, which is our valued customer", he said.

The company plans to launch private sector Leyparts centres at the premises of large private transport operators throughout the country. Leyparts is the Ashok Leyland brand of original spares and it is a Rs. 200-crore business. So far, Leyparts availability has been ensured through 1,000 parts outlets, according to Mr. Seshasayee.

Inaugurating the first private Leyparts center at Hubli based Vijayanand Roadways Limited, one of Ashok Leyland's largest customers in India, Mr. Seshasayee said that was part of Ashok Leyland's customer centric initiative that holistically improved the efficiency of customer's operations and profitability.
