Industry portal for Kannur launched

KANNUR: An industry web portal > was launched by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim here on Monday.

The project initiated by District Collector Ishita Roy in association with the District Industries Centre, Kerala State Small Industries Association (KSSIA) district unit, Akshaya and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) was completed in a short span of time, NIC officials said.

The portal is exclusively for the benefit of small scale industries in Kannur and is aimed at introducing the SSI units here and their products to the global market.

With the launching of the portal, small industries here with SSI registration can reach out to national and global markets.

The DIC has been delegated the authority of the website and it will moderate the content.

The posting in the portal is exclusively for the industry organisations registered under the SSI scheme.

The Akshaya project district office will co-ordinate the participating agencies, officials said, adding that the web page design and data collection were being done by Akshaya entrepreneurs. The portal was developed, designed and hosted by the NIC which imparted training to the Akshaya entrepreneurs for content management and design. The KSSIA district unit would propagate and promote the web portal, they added.

Later, the Minister participated in a face-to-face programme organised jointly by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce and the KSSIA district unit.

KSSIA State president A.P.M. Abdul Rahim, Industries Department Principal Secretary T. Balakrishnan and Industries and Commerce Director T.O. Sooraj were among those present at the function.
