Bharti Airtel, Vodafone chip in

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar on Tuesday announced that they would launch Apple’s latest offering ‘iPhone 3G’ (third generation) smartphone in India by this year-end, when the government is likely to give a go-ahead to advanced 3G mobile services.

The new phone will see its global launch in some European markets besides Australia and New Zealand next month.

Bharti Airtel said soon customers would be able to purchase iPhone 3G at its stores. Details of pricing and availability would be announced at a later date. Similarly, Vodafone said iPhone 3G would be available on both pre-paid and post-paid plans which would include great value data bundles. Its customers would be able to pre-register online and in retail stores soon, it added.
