Audi India opens first showroom in Kochi

The company has invested over 30 million euro at the Aurangabad plant

KOCHI: Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, announced the opening of its first showroom in the country in Kochi on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Benoit Tiers, managing director of Audi India, said this was the flagship showroom of the company in India that exemplified the latest and exclusive ‘terminal architecture’ of Audi.

The purpose of the Audi terminal is to increase the visibility of the brand through a design that is instantly recognisable in the metropolises around the world. The visionary dealership in Kochi has a 9,000 square feet wide area exclusively dedicated for sales.

The managing director, at a press conference here, said the company had invested over thirty million Euro at the Aurangabad plant which has, at current levels, a capacity to manufacture 1,000 passenger cars. He said that the luxury segment of car sales has registered 55 per cent growth for the company last fiscal in spite of the global economic downturn.

One million cars were sold in 2008, but this is expected to drop to nine lakh cars during the current year. He said that the company expected to sell eighty cars in Kerala during the current year.

According to a press release, by the end of 2012, more than 350 Audi terminals are to be created worldwide.

The exclusive super sports car Audi R8 was also displayed during the inauguration of the showroom.
