Nesterenko, fastest woman

ATHENS, AUG. 21. Yuliya Nesterenko of Belarus won the women's 100m athletics gold with a time of 10.93 seconds at the Olympic Games on Saturday. Lauryn Williams of the U.S. won silver and Jamaican Veronica Campbell took bronze.

Inge de Bruijn of the Netherlands retained the women's 50m freestyle swimming title, while Australian Grant Hackett successfully defended his men's 1500m freestyle crown with an Olympic record time of 14 minutes, 43.40 seconds.

Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne (in picture) won the women's tennis singles crown, defeating Amelie Mauresmo of France 6-3, 6-3. In an epic battle that ended in disappointment for India, the tennis doubles pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi lost to the Croatian duo of Mario Ancic and Ivan Ljubicic 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 14-16 in the play-off for bronze.
