Nagore-Karaikal BG line inspection by September

The Commissioner of Railway Safety is likely to inspect the Nagore-Karaikal broad gauge line by the first week of September. This is in line with the progress of the project, with the penultimate works chugging towards completion. The 11.4 kilometre-long stretch includes seven major bridges, 37 minor bridges, nine new guarded-level crossings, and two under-passes (road-under-bridges). The project established at a cumulative cost of Rs.100 crore, was initially sanctioned in 2002. The project has provisioned for a halt-station at Thirumalairajanpattinam. As of date, the concluding works including signalling were under way at the two stations including the terminal in Karaikal.

If cleared by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the district administration has proposed to request for special trains anticipating the pilgrim traffic expected at Thirunallar for ‘Sanipeyarchi' festival slated to fall on December 21 this year.
