Muslim panel seeks probe into sting operation disclosures

The Central Muslim Committee, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, has sought an inquiry into the alleged disclosures by local Bajrang Dal leaders and a BJP MLC on “Love Jihad” in a sting operation by the Delhi-based Cobrapost and Gulail.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, committee’s president and the former MLC K.S. Mohammed Masood said that in the sting operations, a local Bajrang Dal activist has revealed how the activists force a Hindu girl to divorce a Muslim boy she married.

A former BJP activist has also revealed how a man was forced to murder his daughter after she refused to divorce a Muslim boy she married.

The BJP MLC has spoken about the presence of RSS activists in good numbers in the police force in the district, he alleged.

Mr. Masood said, “Though I do not believe these reports (of the sting operation), the revelations are shocking.” Those from Dakshina Kannada featured by Cobrapost have not denied their statements on “Love Jihad” and also on the presence of RSS sympathisers in the police force. It is also surprising that the State government has remained silent.

Mr. Masood said the State government should order a judicial probe or an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department to establish facts, if any.

“People have the right to know if these statements are authentic. Those who have made the statements should come clean on the reports (of the sting operation),” he said and added that the State government should take action in the matter.
