‘May God forgive Kejriwal’

Amid renewed tension between the top two Constitutional functionaries of the Capital after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung, the latter on Saturday reacted with a Biblical saying: “May God forgive him [Mr. Kejriwal] for he knows not what he says.”

Mr. Kejriwal had called the Lieutenant-Governor the “polling agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party” in an interview to a television news channel on Friday. He also made some sarcastic remarks saying Mr. Jung was just saving his chair and taking orders from ‘above’ while the L-G House had become another BJP headquarters.

The Chief Minister and the Lieutenant-Governor have been locked in a controversy over distribution of administrative powers, with the Centre siding with the latter and issuing orders granting him powers in the domains of law and order, police and land. The issues pertaining to the Centre’s notification of May 21 were also raised in the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.

Four days ago, Mr. Jung had affirmed that the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government functioned under his authority, control and supervision.

His statement came in the wake of appointment of Bihar Police officials to the Branch.
