Mahadayi: Farmers up pressure

Farmers from North Karnataka, who were hoping that the BJP’s parleys with Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would resolve the Mahadayi water-sharing row, are stepping up pressure on the party to deliver on the promise. Two days after Mr. Parrikar wrote to BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa expressing his willingness for talks on the issue, farmers from the region are camping before the party office.

State president of the Karnataka Raitha Sena, which is leading the Mahadayi protests, said they would continue the agitation till talks happen and the State gets 7.56 tmcft of water from the Mahadayi or till Mr. Yeddyurappa meets them and accepts that his claims of mediation did not fructify.
