JNU professor alleges rape by student

A research scholar studying in Jawaharlal Nehru University was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a professor.

According to the police, the accused - a Nepalese student of South Asian Studies - had refused to marry the woman after establishing physical relationship with her. In her complaint, the victim told the police that she first came in contact with the accused hailing from Kathmandu in 2013. She also alleged that the accused already had a sexual harassment complaint filed against him in the university.

“He forcibly established physical relation with me and later emotionally blackmailed and threatened me,” said the victim in her complaint.

According to the complaint, she befriended the accused in September 2013 and he proposed to her soon after. However, she turned down his request because he was younger and was a student.

But the accused allegedly established physical relation with her forcibly .

The victim, in her complaint, added that she was uncomfortable and confused with this development but the man promised her of marriage. “He later blocked my mails and all communication with me. When I tried to speak to him and his family, he said it was a live-in relationship and he would defame me if I disclosed more,” said the victim in her complaint. Based on the woman’s statement, a rape case was filed in Vasant Kunj (North) police station on February 23 after which the arrest was made.
