CHANDIGARH: : Jhajjar chief judicial magistrate Sudhir Jiwan, who recently granted bail to former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi in a poaching case, has been placed under suspension by a Full Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court here.

Chief Justice D.K. Jain on Thursday took the decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him, according to highly placed sources, who, however, refused to spell out the reason. The Haryana Government is also maintaining silence.

On June 3, the carcasses of a blackbuck, an endangered species, and two rabbits were recovered from Mr. Pataudi's vehicle.

The police initially let Mr. Pataudi and the other accused go away. They surrendered before Mr. Jiwan on June 18. In open court the magistrate alleged that some persons were threatening him.

Earlier, the High Court rejected the anticipatory bail applications of the accused.
