"I listened to my conscience"

RANCHI, MARCH 11. The Jharkhand Chief Minister, Shibu Soren, tonight said he decided to resign ``after pondering over the whole thing."

To a question whether there was any pressure on him to quit, he replied in the negative.

He told newspersons that he had taken the decision after seeing the overall situation.

``I met the Governor and after that I discussed the situation with my people and decided to resign,'' he said.

Asked whether the Governor asked him to put in his papers, he replied, ``No ... I listened to my conscience and resigned, despite knowing that the NDA did not get a majority in the Assembly election.''

The JMM supremo said: ``I have been a fighter for the poor and the downtrodden and I will continue to fight for the rights of the people of Jharkhand. I hope that the NDA Government which failed in the last four years can make amends if it comes back to power.'' — PTI
