Gulbarga to find a place in smart city list

The State government has finally decided to include Gulbarga in the list of cities to be recommended to the Union government to be declared as smart cities under various categories.

Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake said here on Sunday that the name of Gulbarga would be on the top of the list of the cities to be recommended as a smart city.

Inclusion of cities in the list of smart cities by the Union government would ensure copious flow of funds for development activities. Funding would be liberal for creating infrastructure matching the best cities in the country.

Mr. Sorake said that besides Gulbarga, the government also proposes to include Mysore and Bijapur as heritage cities, Hubli and Belgaum as industrial cities, Tumkur as a satellite city of Bangalore and Mangalore as a port city.

Municipal Administration and Waqf Minister Qamarul Islam, Textiles Minister Baburao Chinchansur and Congress MLC Allamprabhu Patil spoke.
