Engineering student commits suicide

An engineering student who was reportedly upset with her parents asking her to rethink over a decision to pursue higher studies in Bengaluru committed suicide by hanging herself to death at her house in Dharwad on Sunday.

Although the suicide took place during the early hours of Sunday at Charanthimath Gardens in Dharwad, it came to light only in the afternoon. The deceased, Poornima Hampannavar (21), was pursuing engineering in a private college in Dharwad.

Her parents had not bothered about her till afternoon as she usually woke up late on holidays. But when she did not come out of her room even after 12.30 p.m. they grew suspicious and finally broke open the door to find her dead. She had used a sari to hang herself to death from the ceiling, the police said.

The dead was the daughter of Congress leader Shivashankar Hampannavar.
