We have taken serious view of LTTE's air power

KOLLAM: Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Tuesday said India had taken a serious view of the recent developments in Sri Lanka in the backdrop of the air power attained by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Security in the waters around Tamil Nadu and Kerala had been tightened, he told journalists here. More naval and Coast Guard ships were patrolling the area. There were also frequent surveillance sorties by helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicles. The whole area was under vigil. Mr. Antony said New Delhi had offered help to Colombo in some areas, but it was on the condition that the island nation ensured the security of Indian fishermen off the Tamil Nadu coast. He said the sea was being used by terrorist groups.

In Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Antony said the Centre would not allow the LTTE to operate from Tamil Nadu. "We will not allow the LTTE or any other terrorist outfit to operate from India. We are closely monitoring the developments in Sri Lanka," he told reporters.
