DINDIGUL: An exquisitely designed and user-friendly official web site for the district was launched for the convenience of public to settle their grievances through online and download all applications meant for various welfare schemes.

Moreover, petitioners can view the status of their petitions and the processing stage, said Collector M. Vallalar. He was launching the web site and inaugurated a hi-tech conference hall with sophisticated audio and video systems at the Collectorate here on Monday.

The web site will be useful for all, including those living at remote villages, as the district administration plans to network all panchayats through internet. The work was in progress, he added.

Rural people can file their grievance petitions from their villages. The site will generate a registration number to every petition. Petitioners may use this number for all references. Officers concerned will upload replies within a timeframe. Petitions that were lying with the officials for more than 15 days will automatically be transferred to the Collector's folder for an immediate action. It will avoid inordinate delay on official side, Mr. Vallalar said.

Similarly, farmers can clarify their doubts through this site. This system will not only save time but also help the public get information from their villages. They need not wait on the corridors of departments, Mr. Vallalar said.

“We have plans to display seniority list of employment exchange and for all welfare schemes shortly.”

Now, all details of development works, including place, costs and starting time, status and its present condition are available. The web site is also hooked on to the State Revenue Department where people can check the owner of land and his chitta and patta details on submission of registration number. All government announcements and health and welfare schemes will be updated regularly.

On tourism development, Mr. Vallalar said all details of star hotels in Kodaikanal and tourists' sports were displayed. Efforts are on to network all hotels in Kodaikanal through this site to enable tourists to book their rooms through internet.

They can view hotels' website through the district web site only. Prices of vegetables in all farmers' shandis and wholesale markets in upcountry are also available. A special team of experts from Bangalore and NIC officials worked for six months to develop this web site. The web site address is: www.dindigul.tn.nic.in
