Qualities of an accessible website

Some qualities of an accessible website (By Shawn Lawton Henry)

* For images, alternative text is provided in the mark-up (or “code”). Alternative text for images provides equivalent information for those who are not able to see the image, because they use screen reading software that reads aloud the information on the web page, or because they are using a mobile device that does not display images, or because they have a low bandwidth connection and have turned off images, etc.

* Sufficient colour contrast when there is a background colour so that people can read the text.

* Properly marked up ("coded") headings, lists, forms, and tables.
