Prohibitory orders extended till November 16

This follows two stabbing incidents and an assualt reported on the outskirts of the city

Prohibitory orders clamped on the entire Dakshina Kannada from November 9 has been extended till November 16 evening in view of the two stabbing incidents and an assault reported on the outskirts of Mangaluru since November 10.

Earlier, prohibitory orders were in force in the district till Saturday evening to prevent any untoward incidents in view of Tipu Jayanti on November 10.

Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar has clamped prohibitory orders between 2 p.m. on Sunday and 10 p.m. on November 16 in the jurisdiction of Mangaluru Police Commissionerate.

Deputy Commissioner K.G. Jagadeesha has imposed the orders in other parts of Dakshina Kannada between 6 p.m. on Sunday and 6 p.m. on November 16.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that prohibitory orders were clamped to avoid any untoward incidents that could lead to violence.

He said that there will not be any problem for marriages and other social events.

There will not be any problem for people to stand in queue before banks for depositing Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes and withdrawal of money, he said.

There will be no protests, processions and movement of weapons when the prohititory orders are in force.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that the police will act against messages uploaded on social networking sites and Whatsapp that may lead to communal tension.

Definite clues

Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that there were definite clues about perpetrators involved in the two stabbing incidents on Saturday and the assault on VHP activist on November 10 and they are hopeful of arresting them.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that two special police teams each have been formed to investigate the stabbing and assault case.

Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that additional 500 police personnel from neighbouring districts have been called for security purpose.

He said that 14 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police, City Armed Reserve and District Armed Reserve personnel have been deployed.
