Pinki’s dream may come true

Varanasi: Pinki, a daily-wage labourer’s daughter who shot to stardom after a documentary on her, Smile Pinki, won an Oscar, can now fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor: an Indore-based medico, Dr. Bhandari, has announced free medical education for her. BJP MLA and the former U.P Minister, Ajai Rai announced this on behalf of his friend Vinod Bhandari at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport here on Saturday.

Mr. Rai said Pinki would be provided free medical education at Dr. Bhandari’s ’Arvindo Institute of Medical Sciences’ in Indore.

Basic education

Dr. Bhandari would also arrange for her basic education for which his mother, a teacher, Usha Bhandari, has offered her entire pension.

Pinki’s father said on Friday that he would work hard to ensure that her dream of becoming a doctor came true. Pinki, born with a cleft-lip in Rampur Dhabai village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, got a new lease of life after Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh, Director and Surgeon of GS memorial hospital at Varanasi, operated upon her. — PTI
