Corporator allegedly tears the minutes book and interrupts proceedings

NELLORE: Noisy scenes were witnessed in the municipal standing committee meeting when a corporator allegedly tore the minutes book and interrupted the meeting here on Wednesday.

Mayor Pulimi Sailaja Reddy and deputy Mayor Madala Venkateswarlu alleged that the 23rd division corporator Mekala Narender Reddy, belonging to Congress, disrupted the Mayor’s speech in the meeting and argued that the agenda did not need any approval as it was approved in the last meeting.

The corporator, who is also the standing committee member, questioned as to how the Mayor, who shifted to another party, could continue in the post and conduct the proceedings.

In a fit of rage, he tore the pages in the minutes book in full glare of other committee members and officials, said the Mayor.

The committee members prepared the agenda with 34 issues including misuse of 12th Finance Commission funds, irregularities in Indiramma housing and other schemes, allocation of tenders in 13 wards for taking up various development works with Rs. 15 lakh in each division and other subjects.

The committee would recommend the government for suspension of the corporator, who misbehaved in the meeting and used abusive language against other committee members.

The committee would also lodge a complaint with the police against the corporator, said the Mayor.

It may be recalled that the police arrested Ms. Sailaja Reddy when she was on the way to attend the standing committee meeting along with Praja Rajyam leaders in the city on December 24 last year.
