No plan to ban Congress rally, says Acharya

The State Government will provide proper security to the Congress padayatra to Bellary, which is now on its last lap.

Minister for Home V.S. Acharya on Thursday held a high-level meeting with senior police officials on the arrangements being made for the padayatra and the rally to be held on August 9.

Dr. Acharya said the Government had no intention of banning the rally as was being mentioned in certain quarters. “It is our duty to extend adequate security and ensure that the programme passes off peacefully.”

With reference to the proposed Goods and Services Tax, the Home Minister, who attended a meeting of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers held in New Delhi on Wednesday, said, “We are opposed to the introduction of GST in the present format since it will result in a huge revenue loss to the State exchequer.”
