Mob sets ablaze police post over custodial killing

Jammu: Furious over the alleged custodial death of a person, a mob on Saturday set ablaze a police post and two security vehicles in Jammu district, prompting the police to open fire in the air to disperse the agitators.

On hearing of the alleged death of Tarsem Lal in custody, villagers, including the relatives of the deceased, raised slogans and clashed with the police injuring three police personnel, including the Deputy Superintendent of police Shiv Kumar Chouhan, official sources said.

Lal and his father Khazan Chand were called to the police post on Saturday morning in connection with a land dispute case.

Meanwhile, the State Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, a police spokesman said, adding the inquiry report will be submitted within a week. PTI
