600-crore Central package for Gorkhaland

The Centre will provide a Rs.600-crore economic package over the next three years to the proposed Gorkhaland Territorial Administration in Darjeeling for development activities.

The funds will be released in three years — Rs.200 crore each — beginning this fiscal as part of a tripartite agreement to be signed on July 18, official sources said here on Friday.

The agreement will be signed by representatives of the West Bengal Government and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha in the presence of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
