‘At least 50 on Coromandel Express were from Tamil Nadu’

At least 50 passengers on Train No. 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express were residents of Tamil Nadu, according to Southern Railway officials. However, they said, there were no reliable data on casualties from Tamil Nadu and Chennai. Over 800 passengers were from other States. “The deceased passengers in unreserved coaches have not been identified. Information on passengers from Tamil Nadu may be delayed,” an official said. However, relief and rescue teams have shared information directly with the relatives of the injured passengers from the State, some officials said. As many as 12 relatives of the injured passengers registered for the special train that left for Odisha at 7.20 p.m. on Saturday from Chennai. Six persons who boarded this train are said to be the relatives of deceased passengers, officials added.
