During the past two years, 97 liquor retail outlets run by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (Tasmac) across the State were shut and 173 outlets were relocated, Minister for Prohibition and Excise V. Senthilbalaji said in the Assembly on Friday.

Responding to a special calling attention motion moved by AIADMK MLA V.V. Rajan Chellappa, Mr. Senthilbalaji said outlets that were located close to educational institutions and places of worship were being relocated.

‘Against reservation’

Meanwhile VCK MLA ‘Aloor’ Mohamed J. Shanavas said many among the younger generation seemed to be against reservation and language rights.

Participating in the discussion on demands for School Education and Higher Education Departments, Mr. Shanavas said he made this observation from the questions that were asked by students during the lectures he delivered in a few institutions under the State government’s “Maberum Tamil Kanavu” initiative.

He appealed to the government to include the importance and history of reservation and language rights in curriculum.
