AIADMK MLA and former School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Friday questioned the ruling DMK over its electoral assurance that if elected to power, it would take steps to immediately get Tamil Nadu exempted from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

Speaking during the debate on the demand for grants for the School and Higher Education Departments in the Assembly, he said, “Still, the same situation [aspirants will have to appear for NEET] continues.”

Highlighting teacher shortage, he said there was a huge burden on them because of many administrative tasks . He underscored the need to ensure the safety and security of teachers, as COVID-19 left a long-lasting impact on the minds and behaviour of students, and to regularise the services of over 12,000 temporary teachers.
