A park with recreational facilities will be developed on the eight-acre OSR (open space reservation) land on the Koyambedu wholesale market premises, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P.K. Sekarbabu, who is also Chairman of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), said on Saturday.
The Minister, who paid a surprise visit to the market, told The Hindu that a plan would be chalked out to create a vibrant park, which would serve as a lung space in the area. Mr. Sekarbabu said steps would be taken to maintain a clean and hygienic environment on the premises.
Earlier, the Minister held a review meeting on modernising the market with officials of the CMDA, the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Greater Chennai Police.
