IAS officer Dr. Venu Vasudevan took charge of the National Museum in 2013. Of the Museum’s 23 galleries, five have been renovated and opened to the public. The others will be tackled one by one in coming months. The museum organises shows regularly to draw visitors, with excellent curation, display, professional lighting and detailed labelling, all in stark contrast to other museums. There is also an audio tour, complemented by large displays. The museum has also been organising collateral events such as talks, workshops, performances and activities for children. A new outreach team has started using social media to advertise events, says Vasundhara Sangwan, a team member. The museum has collaborated with the Google Art Project and revamped its website to have a better online presence.
