Wozniacki heads women’s rankings

Newly-crowned Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova moved up a place to seventh in the WTA women’s tennis rankings released on Monday.

It is a career-best placing in the rankings for the 21-year-old Czech who defeated Russian Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday’s final.

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark continues to head the rankings ahead of Belgian Kim Clijsters and Russian Vera Zvonareva. Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus both move up a place, to fifth and fourth respectively.
