TNTA award for Jeevan Nedunchezhian

Twentythree-year-old Jeevan Nedunchezhian won the prestigious T.K. Ramanathan award at the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association awards function held at the centre court of the Nungambakkam Stadium here on Saturday.

On behalf of Jeevan, who is away playing an ITF Futures tournament in Tiruchi, his father Mathivanan, received the award carrying a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.

Jeevan won two ITF Futures titles and with an improved performance, his ATP rankings shot up to 513 from scratch.

Speaking at the function, chief guest M. Narendra, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Overseas Bank, spoke about the bank's support to sports and tennis in particular as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility measures. He said IOB would continue to support the ATP Chennai Open.

C.B.N. Reddy, Secretary, TNTA, who proposed the vote of thanks, said Andhra's Snehadevi Reddy and Vishnu Vardhan have registered for Tamil Nadu and will henceforth represent the State in the National championships. A total prize money of Rs. 1,82,000 (by TNTA) and Rs. 2,31,000 (by Sanmar) were distributed.
