Sasi Kumar Mukund prevailed over fourth seed Colin van Beem of the Netherlands 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the Justice P.S. Kailasam ITF Futures tournament at the Powerpak Tennis Academy here on Saturday.
Until 4-all in the first set, van Beem looked more in control than his opponent who struggled with his forehand strokes in particular. Though Sasi Kumar sent down two consecutive aces to lead 30-15 in the ninth game, he could not sustain the momentum.
van Beem took advantage of the short second serves, creating the first break point opportunity of the match. However, Sasi Kumar saved it with a deep second serve.
van Beem went ahead 5-4 with a forehand down-the-line winner and had two set points when Sasi Kumar came up with two forehand winners — one down the line and the other cross-court — to make it a deuce. After saving two breakpoints, van Beem managed to hold serve to win the game and set.
The second set saw Sasi Kumar dominate the tiring Dutchman, winning 6-3.
It was 3-3 in the third set before the Indian raced away to win 6-3.
The result (final): Sasi Kumar Mukund bt Colin van Beem (Ned) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
