Sanjana Sirimalla lost 6-2, 7-5 to second seed Annabelle Xu of Canada in the under-16 girls semifinals of the WTA Future Stars tennis tournament here.

It was a commendable effort from Sanjana as she beat a string of quality players in a seven-player league to make the knock out phase after being tied with two others in the group.

Reese Brantmeier and Clervie Ngououe of the USA won the u-16 and 14 titles in the tournament which is aimed to give young players an experience of the big stage and a chance to interact with the top stars assembled for the WTA Finals.

Pari Singh, who had competed in the u-14 event for India, did well but was placed fourth in the group.

The results:

U-16 girls, semifinals: Annabele Xu (Can) bt Sanjana Sirimalla 6-2, 7-5.
