Riya Bhatia beat Mahak Jain 6-2, 6-4 in a battle of National champions in the first round of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament on Tuesday.

Riya had won the National hard court and grass court titles, before Mahak bagged the National title the last two years. In another first round encounter, third seed Y. Pranjala retired after one game.

The results: $25,000 ITF men, Nonthaburi, Thailand: First round: Sidharth Rawat bt Jirat Navasirisomboon (Tha) 6-2, 7-5.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Jose Fco. Vidal Azorin (Esp) & Adil Kalyanpur bt Kittirat Kerdlaphee & Phongsapak Kerdlaphee (Tha) 6-2, 6-3; Boris Butulija (Srb) & William Griffith (US) bt Rishab Agarwal & Karunuday Singh 6-3, 7-5.

$15,000 ITF men, Singapore: Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Siddhant Banthia & Manish Sureshkumar w.o. Syed Mohd. Adil Syed Naguib (Mas) & Vidit Vaghela.

$25,000 ITF women, Nonthaburi, Thailand: First round: Riya Bhatia bt Mahak Jain 6-2, 6-4; Simona Waltert (Sui) bt Y. Pranjala 1-0 retd.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Victoria Rodriguez (Mex) & Sabina Sharipova (Uzb) bt Bojana Marinkov (Aus) & Saumya Vig 6-1, 7-5.
