Fourth seed Y. Pranjala failed to capitalise on a dream start and lost 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 to qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia in the final of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament on Sunday.

After a whirlwind start, when she won the first seven games, Pranjala went on to lose the next eight.

However, at 2-2 in the decider, Kamilla saved three break points to hold serve and broke Pranjala in the next. The Russian then took control of the contest.

The 20-year-old Pranjala was playing in only her third tournament after having missed four months owing to an injury.

The results:

€586,140 ATP event, Munich: Qualifying singles (second and final round): Denis Istomin (Uzb) bt Prajnesh Gunneswaran 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

First round: Prajnesh bt Alexander Erler (Aut) 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-5.
