Second seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic advanced to the second round of the ABN Amro World tennis tournament here on Wednesday, defeating compatriot Lukas Rosol 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 16 minutes.
Hantuchova ousted
In Doha, Daniela Hantuchova, the glamour girl from Slovakia, was sent packing in the first round of the WTA Qatar Open by little known Romanian Simona Halep on Tuesday as ninth seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany too was shocked by compatriot Angelique Kerber.
Hantuchova , who won in Pattaya last week, ran into an aggressive baseliner who played a brilliant tie-breaker to clinch a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) win after two hours and 32 minutes on court.
“This is one of the best wins of my career, she is a good player, but I'm happy to go into the second round,” said Halep after beating the 15th seed.
Hantuchova's upset followed the 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 ouster of Lisicki by recent Paris Open winner Kerber.
