Nepal stuns India

Top-seeded India suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Nepal in the semifinals of the ITF under-12 South Asian qualifying tennis tournament here on Thursday.

In the match for the third place, India will play Bangladesh.

In the girls’ section, India outplayed Bangladesh 3-0 and will meet Sri Lanka in the final.

The results (semifinals):Boys: Nepal bt India 2-1 (Aarav Samrat Hada bt N Baalaji Nallusamy 6-2, 6-3; Aryan Giri lost to Ayushman Arjeria 6-1, 6-0; Aryan Giri & Aarav Samrat Hada bt Ayushman Arjeria & Krishang Raghuvanshi 7-5, 6-4).

Girls: India bt Bangladesh 3-0 (Sweta Samanta bt Sadia Afrin 6-1, 6-1; Anjali Rathi bt Mashfia Afrin 6-1, 6-1; Shruti Ahlawat & Sweta Samanta bt Sadia Afrin & Dipanita Mitra 6-0, 6-0) .
