Lisicki downs Greta Arn in San Diego

German Sabine Lisicki shook off last weekend’s semifinal loss to Serena Williams, with the 12th seed crushing Hungarian Greta Arn 6-0, 6-2 on Tuesday for a second round place at the Mercury Insurance Open.

Lisicki now lines up against 40-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm after the 1996 tournament champion defeated Argentine Gisela Dulko 7-5, 6-0 in a first round contest.

Lisicki owns a 2-0 record over her Japanese opponent, beating Date-Krumm two years ago in Stanford and in June at Birmingham.

“I was confused a bit in the first set,” Date-Krumm said. “But when I was down 3-5, I started a small comeback. I had some mistakes, but that was the start.” Date-Kurmm said her title victory is now ancient history: “It was a long time ago. I had a lot of confidence then. Of course, I was much younger and everything in my game was better then than now. But I’m enjoying my tennis more now.”

Japanese, Ayumi Morita booked a win over Australian Jelena Dokic 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 and next faces fifth seed Ana Ivanovic.

Two seeds lost as Alberta Brianti won an all-Italian battle with number 10 compatriot Flavia Pennetta 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, while New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic put out 14th seed Elena Vesnina 6-1, 6-2.
