Karunuday and Kyra advance

Third seed Karunuday Singh beat Shotaro Goto of Japan 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament in Bangkok on Monday.

He will play the winner of the match between qualifiers from Japan and China in the pre-quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Kyra Shroff qualified for the main draw and defeated Eden D’Oliveira of South Africa 6-0, 6-3 in the first round of the $10,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Grand Baie La Croisette, Mauritius.

Kyra made the doubles quarterfinals as well with Ani Vangelova of Bulgaria.

$15,000 ITF men (Bangkok): Singles (first round): Karunuday Singh bt Shotaro Goto (Jpn) 6-1, 6-3.

$10,000 ITF women (Grand Baie La Croisette, Mauritius):

Singles (first round): Stamatia Fafaliou (Gre) bt Moulika Ram 7-6(0), 6-1; Kyra Shroff bt Eden D’Oliveira (RSA) 6-0, 6-3; Madrie Le Roux (RSA) bt Dhruthi Venugopal 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Ani Vangelova (Bul) & Kyra bt Varunya Chandrashekar & Asha Nandakumar 6-4, 6-2; D’Oliveira & Caitlin Herb (RSA) bt Fiona Codino (Fra) & Moulika Ram 6-3, 6-1.

Qualifying: (first and final round): Liniques Theron (Nam) bt Varunya Chandrashekar 6-2, 6-1; Kyra bt Simran Kaur Sethi 7-6(3), 6-1; Jaeda Daniel (US) bt Asha 6-1, 6-0.
