Mihika goes down to Freya

Wild card entrant Sathwika Sama beat compatriot Vanshita Pathania 6-3, 6-4 to move into the second round of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the City Centre Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

Former Asian junior champion Mihika Yadav went down in three sets to Freya Christie of Britain in another first round encounter, while wild card Shreya Tatavarthy fought hard before being subdued in the third set by Russian qualifier Evgeniya Burdina.

In doubles pre-quarterfinals, National champion Sowjanya Bavisetti and Dan Ni Wang of China missed three matchpoints in the super tie-break to lose 2-6, 6-4, [19-17] against Cabaj Awad of Sweden and Melanie Klaffner of Austria.
