Adil Kalyanpur recovered from the brink of defeat to beat David Agung Susanto of Indonesia 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 in the first round of the $15,000 ITF Futures tennis tournament on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Adil was down 1-6, 2-4 and broke the 26-year-old Susanto in the 12th game of the second set when the latter was serving for the match. The Indian never looked back after that and went on to win 6-2 in the decider.

In the ITF women’s tournament in China, Karman Kaur Thandi and Rutuja Bhosale reached the singles pre-quarterfinals without dropping a set.
