Germany’s Alexander Zverev defeated John Isner of the United States 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in the semifinals of Italian Masters here on Saturday.

In the WTA event, Romania’s Simona Halep made light of heavy conditions to cruise into the final with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Dutch 15th seed Kiki Bertens.

The win was Halep’s 12th on clay this season and she made sure of her first Rome final in an hour and 17 minutes at the Foro Italico, with the start delayed by half an hour due to overnight rain.

“I feel happy we could finish actually,” said Halep. “It’s really tough to stop because of the rain but here we are, I’m in the final and it’s really nice.

Djokovic in semis

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic dealt with unfinished business by beating Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 6-4 in a rain-delayed quarterfinal on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna made a quarterfinal exit from the Rome Masters while Sania Mirza exited from the WTA event, following a semifinal defeat here.
