India downs Hungary in Deaf World Tennis Championship

Prithvi Sekhar pulled through to a 7-6(4), 1-6, 7-6(7) victory over Gabor Mathe as India scored a 3-0 victory over Hungary in the last league match of the Deaf World Tennis Championship here on Tuesday.

In the women’s match against Britain, Bhavani Kedia gave a rousing start by beating Valerie Copenhagen 6-3, 6-2, but Britain came back strongly in the next two matches to clinch the contest.

The results (league): Men: India bt Hungary 3-0 (DH Prashanth bt Gabor Varkoly 6-0, 6-3; Prithvi Sekhar bt Gabor Mathe 7-6(4), 1-6, 7-6(7); Prithvi Sekhar and DH Prashanth bt Gabor Mathe and Gabor Varkoly 6-3, 6-1).

Women: Britain bt India 2-1 (Valerie Copenhagen lost to Bhavani Kedia 3-6, 2-6; Phoebe Suthers bt Jafreen Shaik 6-3, 6-0; Phoebe Suthers & Valerie Copenhagen bt Kirti Lata & Bhavani Kedia 6-1, 6-0).
