Roger Federer will face Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the Swiss Indoors final as the 16-time Grand Slam winner aims for his fifth home trophy on Sunday.

Federer booked into the final as he defeated compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, his fourth win of the year over his good friend and tenth of 11 in their series.

“It’s always tough to play Stan,” said Federer. “We know each other’s game so well.”

Nishikori profited from a shoulder injury to world number one Novak Djokovic, staging a 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 semifinal upset. Federer won his only trophy this season in the first week of the year at Doha and is defending the Basle title.
