Meeting a legend: Pranjala is a huge fan of Roger Federer.

Y. Pranjala is delighted with the timing of her two back-to-back titles in the $25,000 events (her first) in Lagos (Nigeria) and hopes that she can sustain the momentum she got now over the next few months.

Satisfying

“Yes, I have been waiting for long for this to happen. I am glad not just with the wins but the manner in which I played consistently against some of the best players.

“It is immensely satisfying,” says Pranjala in a chat with The Hindu from Thailand.

“Well, ever since I joined Aussie Stephen Koon’s Impact Training Centre in Thailand which he set up to help, mostly, the Asian players, I feel a huge change in my attitude itself,” says the Hyderabad girl.

“I am lot more fitter which automatically changed my game too. I feel more confident and can take on the best in the most challenging conditions too,” says Pranjala, who has won her last 10 matches on the trot.

Eyeing consistency

“Yes, consistency has been one factor which I will strive to achieve. I am really working hard and beating some tough players over two weeks is a huge morale-booster too,” she says.

“Essentially, I am targeting to break into the top 200 (she will be around 280 after her two recent wins) to be in with a chance to play in the qualifiers for the next year’s Grand Slams. That is one big dream I am really chasing now,” Pranjala said.

“I have couple of big events in India itself over the next two months and I hope to keep winning to be closer to achieving my target,” she added.

“Right now, I am not playing doubles on the advice of my coach. Will take a call on what he feels is better for me.

“I am lucky to find such a perfect mentor at this stage of my career as he knows what exactly I need to be a much better player,” says the second year BA Mass Communication student of St. Mary’s College.

A huge fan of Roger Federer whom she met a couple of times, Pranjala signed off, promising to be a more complete player very soon.
